In the Fall of 2014 our family’s Chiropractor, Dr. L, passed along to both Kelly and myself an email from the Dr.com(one of the world’s leading “Gluten Specialist”), Dr. L knowing of Kelly’s health struggles and her gluten sensitivity. The email contained information on an upcoming 2nd Annual, “The Gluten Summit; A Grain of Truth” with an offer to sign up to hear daily presenters, for free, including 29 Speakers who were a part of that Summit. We were interested.
We signed up, and when the time came to hear the Speakers interviews with Dr.com(Dr. T), we listened via emails to the daily set of pre-recorded interviews. Some of his guests included MDs, including: 1) Neurologist Dr. David Perlmutter, author of “Grain Brain” and “Brain Maker”, 2) Dr. Daniel Amen, Neurologist & Psychiatrist, who 30 years ago initiated the need for brain-scanning for Psychiatric patients and is the Founder of Amen Clinics, 3) Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, master in Neurology and author of “The Gut and Psychology Syndrome”, who also healed her son of Autism through specific diet and nutritional supplementation, 4) Cardiologist Dr. William Davis, author of “Wheat Belly” exposing the damage of GMO(Genetically Modified Organisms) grains and how changes in growing and producing food came to be, 5) Functional Medicine Physician Dr. Mark Hyman, who debunks many common misconceptions of health, 6) Dr. Peter Osborne, a leading authority in Alternative & Functional Medicine health, and 7) Dr. Alessio Fasano, the forerunner in Autoimmune and Celiac Disease Research, suggesting proof that Autoimmune Diseases and Celiac Disease CAN be reversed according to his findings, and believes that no person can fully digest gluten.
What IS Gluten? Gluten is the generic term used for the storage of protein in grains, specifically found in wheat, rye and barely. The gluten protein is the toxic substance that causes an immune response in individuals with celiac disease, but in a recent 20+ year span has shown itself a nuisance to gut health(gut microbiome) in a large population of people world wide. For further information on gut microbiome & intestinal permeability, google https://www.paddisonprogram.com/intestinal-permeability/ and then listen to the interview with Dr. Tom.
Some of the other guests on Dr. T’s Gluten Summit included: 8) Jeffery Smith, a leading activist and spokesperson on the health consequences of GMOs & pesticides in our food system impacting our guts AND brains, 9) Sayer Ji, founder of GreenMedInfo.com. the world’s most commonly referenced and evidence-based natural health resource, and 10)Dave Asprey the “BulletProof Executive”, founder of BulletProof Coffee and many other products to biohack our health to perform better, think faster, and live better lives.
All these mentioned Summit Speakers and 19 more specialists in their fields educated us on the subjects of: The Gut & Brain Connection, the gut being our FIRST brain, Intestinal Permeability(Leaky Gut), the dangers of GMOs in our food system and the impact that GMOs have made in the health of Americans(also worldwide), how doctoring with prescription drugs leads to toxic overloads and is missing the mark in treating symptoms, along with much more healthful information including food as medicine and nutritional healing.
After we’d heard the entire G. Summit, we invested in a full copy of it for future referencing, and also to share with others. We learned so much from Dr. T and his Guest Speakers on the “Gluten Summit”.
“Knowledge is power. Information is power. The secreting or hoarding of knowledge or information may be an act of tyranny camouflaged as humility.” -Robin Morgan
Why do I write about this information? Why do I often times share troublesome health misconceptions while visiting with those I do life with or share on FaceBook? Because I care about people, and the damage that is being done to us as people, and in animals, by large corporations and Big Pharma who are making all kinds of profits in making us sick. But please, don’t just believe me, do the research for yourself.
Also, I share information because I, myself, was a toxic-infested human being in need of help to change my mental and physical health 16 years ago. Thankfully, I chose to step out of my comfort zone, change my thinking, get myself informed and in doing so I learned how to change my health, slowly but gradually, with all natural approaches, supplementing with nutrients that I lacked and then detoxing my body of built up toxic garbage(pathogens) that first caused inflammation and then mental and physical illness.
Autoimmune Diseases, Heart Disease, Cancer, Depression, etc., are killing us, literally, daily. The time has already come to exposing the negative effects of nutrient-dead processed foods, added hormones in meats, chemicals sprayed on crops(directly affecting fruits, vegetables, and grains- that are part of so many processed foods), and the deadly impact these practices have on our health. It’s become one of my passions to gather and share information to help others change their health for the better, if they want to. Bottom line is that it’s up to us to do research and implement healthful changes, independently and corporately, and having accountability if it is actually wanted. We’ve got to WANT to change our health situation to begin to change at all, and part of that is educating ourselves, acting on the knowledge we’ve gained, and making daily choices to live a better life.
A minority of people wanting change in our food supply is growing. Americans are waking up and starting to hear the call to not only clean-up their diets but to challenge the USDA practices and the disfunctional Food Pyramid directive, and are seeing the need to grow their own food or find acceptable resources to buy wholesome food from. I’m expecting to see the minority in this arena grow into a majority before I die.

All this to bring me to my main “title” point: The importance of really taking time for “talking to the people we are ‘Rubbing Shoulders’ with”. This statement has become an action term with us. It means that we are paying attention, listening, and talking to those who come into our life, really taking time to get to KNOW these people and hear what they have to say. They’re in our life for a reason, whether that be to connect us to themselves or others through their connections, or for them to be a part of our lives now or for an extended period of time for reasons unknown to us immediately(or perhaps immediately)!
Life is about relationships. We CAN learn from every single person we come into contact with! We all have something to bring to the table for others, too, if they are willing to pursue further opportunities of relationship, knowledge, or growth from even someone whom may be deemed “less than”, including yours truly! And you know what? It’s FUN to get to know the person next to you and connect with them on some level! Seems as though there is always a common connection!
“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard and valued; when they can give and receive without judgement; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.” -Brene Brown
So I ask you, who are you “Rubbing Shoulders” with? Are you paying attention to those people coming into your life, sporadically, on the job, at the gym, ect.? Those people are not randomly brought to you. You have something to share with them. Of course we all have a choice in relating or not. We can either not take the extra time or perhaps live in fear of stepping out of our comfort zone to start a conversation, OR we can invest a few minutes or more and possibly be blessed by the time we spend in getting to know the one next to us!
Being blessed by another human being and being thankful are common prayers of mine. I’m blessed to have and thankful for so much change in my adult life, and for the people who’ve helped bring about the positive changes. I’m thankful for the hands of God putting people in my life that have motivated, helped, encouraged, taught by sporting of a life well lived, all those who’ve impacted me to making better choices for myself(and my family).
One of those people who’ve blessed us, who comes to mind because of writing this blog post today, is our family’s Chiropractor, Dr. L. He chose to get to KNOW us during the time our lives intersected at his office, and still does. And then he shared the “Gluten Summit” email from the Dr.com, among a number of other helpful insights, pieces of information, and recommendations over the years. From that one email on the subject of Gluten came a whole lot of information and connections to aid in changing our family’s health, specifically Kelly’s health.
“Thanks, Dr. L. You rock.”
In a future post I will share how the Dr.com, through further emails directly from Dr. T’s office to his “followers”, aided in bringing people into Kelly’s life to help save her life and guide her into optimal health. Stay tuned!
