Time.
“It is not about having time. It is about making time.” This statement is one that I hear a lot. What about you?
Maybe this statement is heard, or maybe it is spoken by you. And just maybe, it is neither, or both!
Today’s blog is a fun one… full of insights, thoughts, and provoking ideas!
Time.
We all have the same amount of time in each and every day. 24 hours. What we do with these precious 24 hours is up to us. We allot time for the things we need to do, want to do, and also make time for the emergencies that come up in our daily lives. Life is truly full of many “unpredictables”. We’d never be able to plan everything, because things DO come up that were/are unforeseen.
Let’s take, for example, there are 3 items on the grocery list. Apples, bananas, and a pineapple for a salad that will need to be made for tomorrow. Walking into the grocery store you have one item in your hand and then you meet eyes with a friend. You literally allotted 5-10mins for your shopping to be done. As the conversation gathers with substance of sharing with one another, 10 minutes come and go. Another 10 minutes of conversation was had and then it’s time to continue shopping. Long story short your shopping trip took half an hour instead of 5-10 minutes. Oh, and not to mention you ended up walking out with 5 items instead of the intended 3.
What I want to point out of this example is:
1) Shopping took longer than the 10 minutes you allowed for it.
2) You and your friend shared great conversations, and you both walked away from the impromptu visit blessed. You each took time out of your “planned schedules” and were glad you did.
3) You ended up seeing two other additional items not on the list while shopping that you did truly need. You bought them and happily walked out of the grocery store with 5 items.
4) Life often throws us things we don’t see coming in our lives. How we react to these unpredictable things can be a blessing, or it can be a blow to the gut.
I’m not here to tell you how to use your 24 hours in the day, That’s not my place. What I’m here to share is that we ALL have the same 24 hours in each and every day. Not everyday is going to look the same no matter if you follow the same routine each and every day. Life is a great big adventure full of ups and downs, lemons and lemonade, and at times some lip smacking peaches and cream.
I want to reiterate the quote shared earlier, “It’s not about having time. It’s about making time.”
We all have the same 24 hours in the day. We choose to make time for what we want to do and have to do each and every day. Again, let me restate, we MAKE time. We all make time for what we want or need to do. It’s true. We make whatever priorities we choose to make, or not to make. I’d like to remind each and every last one of us that taking time out of our days to laugh, smile, talk to a loved one, type a message or letter to a friend, feel the sun on your shoulders, and to do something out of the ordinary.
May I offer, some suggestions that really make a difference in other’s lives? Tell others you love them. Give a loved one a hug. Tell a story to a friend that will bring a smile to their face. Please, what I’m suggesting is to take time out of your busy life and MAKE the time to do something to enrich someone else’s life. You, too, will be blessed in the process. Taking time to do this will touch their life in ways you may never know.
Life is precious. I surely hope that we all can make time today to bring a smile to someone else’s day and light up their world. I also hope that this isn’t just a “one time deal”, and that we would do this each and everyday, and eventually without even having to think about doing so, so that it would just come naturally.
Each and every day is a gift that we can’t take back. I hope and pray that from this day forward we all choose to make time for truly important things in life. Only we can determine what is important. As I’ve said in past blog posts, “Choose wisely.” You my friend, are the only one that can do your own choosing.
I’d like to leave off today with inspiring you to become more aware of having time vs. making time. May you be blessed in your thoughts, intentions, and in the actions that you experience today. Have a beautiful day and make time for something special today!
